Hi I'm Leslie

I'm a full-time farmer in Western Wisconsin where I raise meat goats and sheep on pasture using regenerative and rotational grazing practices.

I created this website because
I had so many people reaching out, both locally and beyond, wanting to know more about how I was raising and marketing goats.

I also recognized that it IS so hard to find information in this space. I wanted to share what I've learned along the way and reduce your time searching the depths of the internet.

Firewood processing made easy with skid steer wood splitter

Managing downed trees and maintaining a steady supply of firewood is important for us since we use it to heat our home and farm shop, as well as cook down maple sap into syrup.. That’s why we added the Halverson HWP-140B LH Firewood Processor to our equipment on the farm. This skid steer attachment has taken a tasks that has been traditionally labor-intensive into a one-person operation with little effort.

Why we chose the Halverson Firewood Processor

The HWP-140B LH is designed for use directly with skid steer or tractor, saving time and reducing physical strain. We chose the left-handed version for its better access and visibility from the driver’s seat since we use it with our Toolcat.

Key features that set this wood splitter apart

The wood processor mounts easily on tractors, excavators, and most skid steers, with its universal quick-attach system. Basic requirements needed to run it include: case drain, 15.5 GPM flow rate and at least 2,850 PSI pressure.

Operating it is simple: load a log onto the deck, secure it with the grab arm, and cut it to length. The log drops into place and is split by the wedge. It will split into either four or six pieces.

Its mobility allows you to bring the processor directly to the logpile, whether that’s in the farm yard or out in the woods,, eliminating the need to haul logs to a stationary splitter. You can even split firewood directly into a truck, trailer, or basket, streamlining the process.

Considerations keep in mind

While the Halverson attachment handles standard firewood sizes with ease, it’s limitations is cutting wood into smaller pieces, like kindling. For those, we use a smaller splitter or an axe to finish the job. It’s a minor trade-off for the overall efficiency the processor brings for tackling logs.

Specifications at a glance

  • Maximum log diameter: 18 inches
  • Maximum log length: 12 feet
  • Firewood cut length: Up to 22 inches
  • Splitting force: 28,850 pounds at 3,000 PSI
  • Adjustable splitting wedge for four-way or six-way splits
  • Weight: 1,450 pounds
